Growing organic cotton is sustainable agriculture. Every year, consumers around the world buy about 80 billion pieces of new clothes. It is obligatory to add the connotation of fashion to the concern for environmental protection. Today, I will briefly introduce the classification of organic cotton.
Classification of cotton
1. Genetically modified cotton - This type of cotton has been genetically modified so that its immune system can resist one of the most dangerous pests to cotton, the bollworm.
2. Sustainable cotton – Sustainable cotton is still conventional or genetically modified cotton, but it uses less fertilizer and pesticides to grow it and has less impact on water resources.
3. Organic cotton - from seeds, and land to agricultural products, organic fertilizers, biological control of pests and diseases, and natural farming management are the mainstays. Chemicals are not allowed, and all natural and pollution-free production. Pollution-free is also required in the production and spinning process.
Science and Technology Daily reported that in 2014, the planting rate of GM cotton in China reached 93%. In addition to GM cotton, GM cottonseed oil is used to process food, and GM cottonseed cake is processed into animal feed, which eventually enters our food chain.
